Frequently Asked Questions
What do I wear to my newborn session?
This question can be applied to any type of session. What do you wear? Maybe you don’t feel like shopping, maybe you’ve got a lot on your plate and just don’t have the energy to style your entire family, maybe baby brain has the best of you and you can’t even remember what the primary colors actually are… don’t stress, I got you! For several of my sessions, I offer styling. I have gown options for mom, and boutique clothes for kids. Dad can be paired in simple items that I can pick up in his size if I don’t already have them on hand or we can dig into his closet for some old treasures. [How is it fair that men get to keep their college sized waist?] I’ll work right along side you to give you detailed advice, shop for you or share creamy color pallets and examples and let you bring your style to life. Either way, you’re going to look great!
How many images do you give?
I don’t cap my image count for sessions, you get the best of the best whether is 5 or 105. I average about 20 images per hour with newborn sessions. For all outdoor sessions [maternity/family/engagement/etc] I usually land somewhere between 50-100. Child studio sessions are the most unknown… because it depends on the hour and your child [you know the drill], but I try to never give less than 10 images for sitter, milestone or mini sessions.
How much is a newborn session?
I have so many options! Shoot me a message and I’ll get you the full pricing menu, where I overshare every detail of about my work and services.
What do I get with my session?
All of my session’s fees include the shoot itself, digital images and print release. I don’t want anyone making an investment in my services and not having something to show for it. If you pay me to photograph you, you walk away with some form of pictures. Select sessions come with a little more, like, USB’s, prints, wall art or albums. I also highly encourage parents to print their products through me and my professional lab for quality products that represent my work and your family.
I don’t know any cool places to shoot. Do you have suggestions?
Do I! But, first, I encourage you to think about you. What’s your style, what look are you going for? My style is documentary and candid, but are you homebodies? Let’s hang in your living room! Are you adventurers? I’ll hike with you! Beer or wine connoisseur? Take me to your fav brewery! Coffee shops add a modern flare. Parks are beautiful and have some of the best lighting. Cityscapes and sidewalks make a great backdrop. The world is our oyster…. well, Northeast Ohio is at least.
What will my older children do, during a 3 hour newborn session?
Probably get super antsy, throw out at least one tantrum and complain of boredom. That’s why family and sibling shots are typically first, then I encourage you to make yourselves at home. Not only for toddlers and children, but if you’re feelin’ a nap, take it! I have an adjoining space to my studio, stocked with some entertainment, where kids can run wild and wreck the place. Bonus feature of a home studio is that your kids are welcome to my girls’ playroom, too! Another clever option I’ve seen is some parents bring an extra person in an extra vehicle [or mom and dad drive separate] so that someone can leave with the kids after their part of the shoot is over.
Can I swap out products or services in bundled collections?
Most of my collections are pretty cut and dry. I do have a few that I’ve very carefully bundled and priced out for special rates. If the collections aren’t meeting your needs, I offer anything that’s bundled as a solo session. If you’re thinking about booking more than one session but you don’t see any bundle discounts being offered, just be open with me about what you’re thinking about booking and what your budget is. I don’t offer discounts on my services, but I can help you get the most bang for your buck when you’re clear with me about your needs.
What if my kids don’t cooperate?
From toddler to teen and everything in between… my expectations stay pretty low. HA! Listen, I don’t like being in front of the camera. It’s awkward, what do I do with my hands, all of the attention is on me and It’s making me sweaty. Being photographed can be totally weird for adults, so why should we expect it to be any different for our kids? I’m pretty great at bringing kids out of their shells through the power of play [with the exception of 10-12 year old boys] . No one wants a boring “look here and smile” session flow, it’s too awkward and fake. I’m all about interaction and bringing out personalities. In extreme cases [like sleepy 2 year olds or “too cool for school” tween boys] it’s just your season of life that you’re documenting, attitudes included, and I pride myself in turning those challenging moments into candid memories.
How soon will I get my photos?
I’m pretty good at getting myself or my family in front of the camera a few times a year, and I’m also notorious for wanting the photos back immediately. Contractually, I’ll tell you 3 weeks turn around time. But from January to August, I like to brag that I can get them back to clients in a week’s time [not a promise, just a goal!]. Busy season for us, is September through December, and us photographers turn into super humans that can photograph any thing, any hour of the day, any day of the week… post production becomes a different story during that time and that’s where the three week time line becomes more true.
How do I book?
Will it date me if I quote the Kim Possible intro song? I’ll spare you… but, you can click here to fill out my contact form, find me on social media and DM me, or my contact number is at the bottom of all of my web pages. E-mail is how I’ll send you the pricing menu, but once you’ve looked it over at least once, we can meet up in person, or jump on a phone or Skype date, to answer questions and get to know each other better.
